2011 Team Entry Information

Paddles up!  The 3^rd Annual Red River Dragon Boat Festival will be held on September 10, 2011, in Downtown Shreveport at Riverview Plaza (across Clyde Fant Parkway from Sci-Port Discovery Center.)  The opening ceremony will be held at 8:30am with the first races of the day following immediately.  Our goal is to complete all races as quickly as possible.

The Rotary Club of Shreveport is thrilled to bring the excitement of dragon boat racing to the Red River in Northwest Louisiana.  Every year, an estimated 50 million people from 40 countries participate in this sport.  We invite you to join that growing number.

The Rotary Club of Shreveport funds projects in the areas of education, social services and community development with the proceeds from the event.  The 2010 Festival generated $28,887 in funding to the community.

In this packet you will find:

• A registration form that must be submitted by 08/19/2011 with the team registration fee of $750.  For this registration fee, your team receives an opportunity to schedule a practice session on the river the week of the race, festival t-shirts for each team member, and a tent for the team’s use during the event.
• A roster of team members that must be submitted no later than your practice day or the day of the event if no practice is scheduled.  Each team is composed of a minimum of 20 paddlers and a drummer who beats the cadence.  At least 2 alternates are strongly recommended for each team.
• A waiver that must be signed and submitted by each participant no later than your practice day or the day of the race.  Please note:  each participant must present a driver’s license the day of the race to verify identity.  A waiver for any participant under the age of 18 must be signed by a parent or legal guardian and a copy of the driver’s license of the parent or legal guardian must be attached to the waiver (no exceptions will be made).
• A fact sheet for your team’s organizers and participants.  We recommend a copy of the information be provided to each participant.
